After 23 weeks of traffic disruptions, all of the lanes at the intersection of Routes 14, 303, and 43 at the Streetsboro Town Square are now open.

The project to rebuild the intersection began during the last week of March. Initially it was scheduled to be completed in early July, however a concern over the quality of a portion of the concrete resulted in lengthy delays.

According to Streetsboro Mayor Glenn Broska, the last time the square was significantly upgraded was in 1997. Last year the Ohio Department of Transportation informed the city that the intersection needed to be improved. Mr. Broska commented, “We did not have the amount of traffic driving through the square then (in 1997) as we do now. The square has degraded to the point that it is almost unsafe.” According to Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS) nearly 30-thousand vehicles drive through the intersection daily.

With this part of the project completed, the resurfacing phase will begin Tuesday evening on Route 43 south. Mr. Broska says that this phase will not cause any significant traffic problems as it will occur between 7pm and 5am.

The entire resurfacing project will start at the square and will extend on Route 14 east to Portage Pointe Drive and west to the Ohio Turnpike. It will also extend on Route 43 south to Twin Lakes and north to Market Square Drive.
